Leaping into February 29th

Happy Leap Day! I have been eager to share some photos of Maui LEAPING with love on a recent beach trip in Malibu. One of the (many) benefits of marrying Luke is that I instantly gained a whole new group of friends. One of them is a very talented videographer and photographer, Rob Ranney. Rob stayed with Luke a few weeks ago while I was speaking at Baylor and on their hike and during their time at the beach, captured some of my new favorite pictures! Thank you Rob for sharing these memories with us. Maui was decked out in every possible doggy accessory. She has on her GoPro body vest (thank you Nona!) and prong collar, which helps keep her on track while hiking on tough terrain. And then it was time for the beach….   I have never seen Maui more happy than when she is at the beach! Fate and her name must have had something to do with that 🙂 …she truly is my island girl! Leaping into February 29th with some motivation from Maui! Life is …

Mornings in Malibu: Westward Beach

Since moving to Southern California I would say I spend 85% of my time outside or planning when I’ll be outside next. It’s too pretty not to! Most Saturdays we begin our weekend with a hike or a walk on the beach. I am an early riser and Luke likes to sleep in so we’ve found a meeting place around 8AM. Yes, I said 8AM, it balances out Luke’s 10AM wake up with my 6AM one. :). On Saturdays that Luke has to study I’ve welcomed a ritual of exploring Westward Beach with Maui. I’ve shared it on Snapchat before but had fun taking some photos this morning while we were out. Westward Beach is tucked around the bend of (the sometimes crowded) Zuma Beach. It’s a bit cozier than Zuma and I’ve found familiar faces after only a few weekends of being a regular. I had someone today wave and remind me that we had spoken last week, which I thought was very sweet. Maui has quickly become the mascot of Westward Beach and people can’t seem …

Our SoCal Style

Luke and I have been married for two months…today! I can’t begin to express how FUN these first two months of marriage have been and how thankful I am to have Luke as my husband. I’m so sorry to everyone else who didn’t get to marry him! 😉 As you might have gathered from other posts, only a few days after returning from our honeymoon we packed all of my belongings and moved to our new home in Calabasas. Luke is studying at Pepperdine Law in Malibu. If you’re not familiar with the area, Calabasas is about a 15 minute drive outside of Malibu. I love our home. It’s close to the beach, a dog park, and has beautiful hiking trails in walking distance of our front door. Luke picked out our apartment without me ever seeing it and did a great job. Once we arrived in Calabasas I was eager to unpack our wedding gifts and set up house! Here are a few of my favorite decorative and sentimental pieces we’re enjoying in our first …

Our Honeymoon: Jade Mountain St. Lucia

Here’s a little insight into the beginning of our honeymoon: After the most amazing wedding, Luke and I missed our first flight to Atlanta and then Saint Lucia the morning after our ceremony. BUT let me just say, we were so happy to be married that the delay didn’t both us and we welcomed a new flight to Atlanta and then on to Saint Lucia the next day (we even extended our trip one day so we didn’t end up missing out on any days in the Saint Lucia sun!). We spent a little over a week in paradise and enjoyed our first Christmas in our three walled sanctuary. It was the most unbelievable trip either of us have ever been on and it’s all thanks to Jade Mountain in beautiful Saint Lucia. Our room at Jade Mountain was completely out of this world. JE3. When we return I plan on requesting it every time. The walkway to the front door of our sanctuary was long and wide. Each sanctuary has a private walkway that only it’s …

Pepperdine Law School Dinner 2016

Luke and I go to Pepperdine’s Law School Dinner every year…all two of them. 🙂 This year was another great night at The Ritz-Carlton Marina del Rey. While the mood started off somber due to the passing of the amazing Justice Scalia, the school was quick to remind everyone of his great accomplishments and then welcomed an amazing panel of speakers. Luke loved every moment…and I loved every moment I understood….;).

Karlie’s Kookies: Perfect 10

As many of you know I love baking. I really enjoy the process of baking. It’s therapeutic to me. I love mixing things together and I love serving whatever it is I have made to my husband, Luke. With that being said, I don’t usually cook with any sugar, white flour, or your “normal” baking ingredients. I like to cook and bake with healthy alternatives. Many people assume this means you can forget about any sweet taste or delicious desserts which is simply not the case! The dark chocolate chips and agave make for a surprisingly sweet cookie and the perfect grab and go breakfast. (Yes, cookies for breakfast!) These cookies are inspired by Karlie Kloss and her Perfect 10 Kookie sold at Momofuku Milk Bar (one of my regular stops while living in NYC.) The Perfect 10 Kookie (makes 12 kookies) Ingredients 2 cups almond flour (You can make your own with a food processor–it’s pricey to buy already ground.) 1 cup whole oats* ½ tsp. kosher salt ½ tsp. baking powder ¼ tsp. …
